Comscore released a press report yesterday which reveals that nearly Two-Thirds of US 234 Million Mobile subscribers used Text Messaging in December 2009. Comscore survey reports are are well trusted over the globe for its authenticity and reliability. The report basically analyses the key trends in US mobile market over last three months of 2009.

Survey  ranked the leading mobile original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and smartphone operating system (OS) platforms in the U.S. according to their share of current mobile subscribers age 13 and older, as well as the most popular forms of content and activity accessed via mobile device.

According to the report,  Motorola was the  top handset manufacturer with 23.5 percent market share, followed by LG and Samsung with close 21.7% and 20.4% respectively. The survey also digged the smart phone trends in US. RIM led among smartphone operating systems with a 41.6 percent market share followed by Apple at 24.1%. Google was left behind with just 2% of market share (we hope this percentage would increase considerably by the of next survey).

Whereas on the brighter side of the story Google Android seems to have doubled its market shares in last three months of 2009.  For the quarter ending in December 2009, versus the preceding three months, Android (Google’s offering) jumped from 2.5% to 5.2%. That equates to a 108% rise in just three months.

When analysed closely,  much of that gained market share seemed to come at the expense of Palm, which slid from 8.3 to 6.1%. It is not hard to see the market share lines for Palm and Android crossing soon. Assuming a one to one correlation between the loss of Palm market share to Google’s market share bucket, the 0.9% difference could happen in a month. Not good news for the struggling Palm.
