Nokia, the ruler of the mobile industry sued Apple on the grounds of intellectual property rights. Nokia which dominates the mobile handset market accused Apple of infringing its patents. The case has been filed with U.S. District Court, Delaware.

According to the complaint filed Nokia wants Apple to compensate it for using its patents and also compensate for all the past usage with interest. The amount however was not specified.

According to the lawsuit:

Apple’s wireless communication devices take advantage of the decades of continued investments by Nokia to build today’s communication protocols,” Nokia said in the filing. “By refusing to compensate Nokia for its patented technologies, Apple is attempting to get a ‘free-ride’ on the billions of dollars that Nokia has invested.”

Nokia had ended a long battle last year with Qualcomm, the U.S. chipmaker. Nokia has been facing a tough competition from iPhone in the smart phone market and has been losing its market share since Apple launched its hit product.

Apple hasn’t made any comments so far about the lawsuit and certainly doesn’t look too concerned either.
